My writing process - blog tour revisited.

Some things go round, rather like the spiral on the left.  There are a few homages to its 10th Century Exeter Book to be seen around the city centre and this is one. It's a section of a riddle written more than a thousand years later than those in the Book.
I wonder if the writing process blog tour will go round for a thousand years. Somehow I doubt it. But here it is again! I was last asked in February by Sophie Duffy and now Margaret James has handed the baton back to me. Look out Su Bristow - it's coming your way next.
Now my writing process hasn't radically changed since February but via the questions, I can give you a catch up. 
1, What am I working on?
I wish I could say that I had a synopsis written and a time frame for completion. The fact is, however, that while I have many plans for the next novel, they are on scraps of paper. There are one or two scenes on the computer and research wise, I am getting through a great many web links and books, although a lot are still to be read and digested. 
Other things I'm working on since the finish of Madrigal? I've written a short story or three but of course, the main achievement is publishing both Cat Walks and The Creative Writing Student's Handbook.
2, How does my work differ from others in its genre?Last time I talked about how classical music and its performance featured in most of my writing and I'm thinking it will also feature in the next novel. I'm very interested in another Renaissance composer...
3, Why do I write what I do?
Somebody tell me, please! Classical musicians are usually endeavouring to bring the past into the present via the music they're playing and maybe that has some bearing on the fact that I'm drawn to write time-slips. I swore I wouldn't do it again, but that's not how it's looking. 
4, How does my writing process go?
At the moment it's fairly chaotic - there's lots going on here, competitions and future plans, but I don't really like being without a novel on the stove. It makes me feel unsettled, as if I'm living next door to a building site where I don't know what will be built or who is going to move in. I'll have to get down to it soon!
