![]() Scent of Lemons? I have had some excellent news. My story Scent of Lemons has won second prize in the 2012 Words with Jam BIGGER short story competition. There were three categories for entry and mine was for a story of up to 2500 words. Words with Jam is a literary journal that is free to read online. The February/March edition focusses on Crime writing but it also contains all the winning stories. Later this year, there will be a published anthology of winning entries. That's nice! Another nice thing was that I was contacted via the Twitter-verse by a couple of other winners. Congratulations to @mysmalltales and @Karjon. The magazine and winning entries can be found HERE Edit: Shocking overuse of the word 'winning' in this post. Tut tut!

![]() This birthday card made me laugh. I love that the Thesaurus is wearing glasses although mine yoyo on and off these days as I prefer reading and writing on the laptop without them. Talking of days, it has been so busy lately, that I am in a bit of daze. Margaret and I were thrilled with the response to the first chapter of The Creative Writing Student's Handbook. The website had just short of a thousand hits on the first day. Brilliant. On Wednesday I went to West Exe Technical College to present the prize to the winner of their story competition. Well done to Ewan Meluish - an outstanding winner. You can read his story HERE. I hope his win gives him confidence in his writing. Sophie has recently written a brilliant blog about the importance of learning from mistakes and being brave. Both essential characteristics for writers. All enquiries about the Write-on have been from those anxious they won't be good enough. It makes me sad. Improvement comes from having the confidence to step outside one's comfort zone. Both Sophie and myself have had to do that to get where we are - which is only along the same road that you are travelling. Read her blog HERE and have a big think about signing up for the Write-on. We look forward to seeing you there. |
