Two things came to an end this week. Firstly the Write-On which I certainly found valuable and I'm sure everyone else did too. It was a privilege to work with writers who were so enthusiastic and hard working. Secondly, I taught my last class for the College. I resigned before Christmas and am now free to organise classes and workshops just as I like. Phew! That makes me happy, although I did feel sad when I read the lovely remarks my students (sorry, learners) had written. When I first began to work freelance it was because there wasn't any provision for the writer between signing on for a termly evening class and applying for a purse-busting MA. CreativeWritingMatters filled that gap very quickly. In fact, it was all a bit too much for one person! And writing is a big subject, there's lots to know. Lucky me, that I knew Margaret James and Sophie Duffy. Between us, we can help with the amazing journey from the twinkling idea to publication or competition competition success. If ever you find yourself talking about writing, it would be great if you would mention CreativeWritingMatters. Recommendation is the best form of advertising! Last week, I went to Barnstaple. It rained most of the way but was still a beautiful journey. Here is the new (2007) and very elegant road bridge over the River Taw in the day's late burst of sunshine. I was glad of a day out. CreativeWritingMatters H.Q. has been a very busy place lately and will continue to be so in the future. We have plans! Coming up, is the Fantasy, SF and Horror workshop with Steve Haynes. For anyone remotely interested in writing in these genres, this is a fantastic opportunity to hear from someone in the publishing industry. If you dream of publication, then this workshop is for you. Go HERE I am running my short story course beginning on 23th April. All aspects of short story writing are explored. It's very popular, so I advise booking sooner rather than later. Go HERE Starting on 26th April, Friday Writers will meet fortnightly. This is a taught course in the style of a tutor group. Go HERE for further information. I'm about a third of the way through the new novel. Unlike my day trip to Barnstaple it's very long journey. That's why I've been a little quiet, as much of my time has been spent in Renaissance Naples. So far, so good though. I'll keep you posted. |
