I couldn't be more delighted. This novel has been a long time coming. It has been through several redrafts, has been fatter and thinner - like me - but this is The One! Secret of the Song is a time-slip mystery story. The historical thread is based on the life of the mad and very bad Italian Renaissance composer, Gesualdo. When a manuscript of his turns up in Exeter Museum, things begin to go very badly for the group asked to sing it. Can Lisa discover what secret lies behind this song before harm befalls them all? That's the blurb, but then comes the cover... Over the years I've seen quite a few cases of either cover grief or rage and it wasn't until I saw mine that I understood quite what an emotional experience it is. I'm sure Elizabeth Gaskell and Virginia Woolf would have had something to say about this cover for Cranford and this cover for Night and Day. There are some other splendid examples on that site for your delectation and a gazillion others on the web if you care to look. So when the talented Berni Stevens produced my cover image, I was absolutely thrilled. Unlike those above, it actually reflects what the book is about! It is both contemporary and historical - tick It's about a song - tick It's about someone is looking back at the past - tick It's both attractive and eye-catching - tick It's intriguing - what does lie behind the discord? - tick Hooray! So it's no surprise that I love it. It's perfect for the novel, and I can't begin to tell you what a relief that is. And it'll be no surprise to you, that as soon as I know, I'll be back with a publication date. ps It's the 6th October for the Kindle version. Click on the cover! Paperback date to follow.

How fortunate you were! I've just looked at the bad ones - quite incomprehensible. Have the designers even read the books? Best wishes for your sales - I shall contribute to them.

I am indeed fortunate, although to be fair to most designers, they don't need to read the entire book, but they do need appropriate information about what the book is about. I cannot imagine who suggested flying saucers for the cover of Cranford!
